Hello Everyone,
I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break. My daughter came home and we crafted and cooked and read. A perfect break. Now that the break is over, we hit the ground running. Literacy groups are continuing to research our nonfiction topic and will begin writing our papers this week. We have our field trip to the Schiele Museum on Thursday. You will receive more information towards the middle of the week about that trip.
On Friday the AM literacy block will be taking their midyear MAP assessment. The PM literacy block will be taking their MAP assessment on Monday.
We are also beginning to wrap up the nonfiction literacy unit with an assessment on main idea, details, and text features later this week as well.
Have you heard about our new Reading Comprehension Test Strategies? It's called RELAX and it stands for:
R - read questions, read text, reread questions
E - Examine every answer choice closely before choosing your answer
L - Label you answer in the passage or the problem
A - Always check your work
X - X-out the answers that can't be correct
The students were introduced to this strategy last week as a way to be a 'Smarter Test Taker'
