Hello Everyone!
What a wonderful week it was for everyone. I always warn the students that the first week is usually pretty boring because it's filled with rules and procedures, but I think we managed to have a little fun in there as well! Please sit back and get comfortable because there is a great deal of information in this week's update.
Mark your calendar! The students will be completing the CogAT testing on September 8, 9, and 10. It is so important that the students are in school and completing the testing in the familiar surroundings of their classroom. A yellow information paper was sent home in your child's red behavior folder on this past Thursday.
This week we had a practice lock down and fire drill. We learned about the different types of bullies, but more importantly we learned how to be 'bully safe'. Ask your child what the meanest thing to say is. We identified how to pick out ''Just right Books' and began our stamina reading. Currently we are up to reading independently for 20 minutes. The class got to know each other a little better by sharing our Me Bags.
I want to thank you all for purchasing agendas for your children so promptly. We will be using the agendas every day to record homework, nightly reading and communicating with each other. You all have seen the red behavior folders coming home each evening. There was information in that behavior folder on Thursday which explained HOW we are using the folders, the color chart and the clips in class. Please review that white paper with your child then sign and return it in their red folder. The folder and the agenda should be signed nightly. I review the behavior folders and the agenda every morning.
If your child is going to be absent or has been absent, please send me an email to let me know why they were out. I can then forward that email to our registrar for the documentation.
If there is another email address you would like me to add to our class distribution list, please let me know.
If you are able to come in to volunteer for an hour or so on Friday, September 11th please let me know. I am also looking for a Thursday Folder Mom (or Dad) who will come in sometime on Thursdays to fill the red folders with papers to be sent home. If you are interested, please let me know.
Classroom need: Several people have asked what kinds of supplies our class needs. Well here they are!
recess toys
copy paper
band aids
hand sanitizer
The class thanks you for your support.
I wanted to let you know that I will be out Monday through Thursday of this upcoming week. I have already told the class. My daughter is starting college in Chicago and will be moving into her dorm on Tuesday morning. I will be checking email (between crying and making another run to the local Target).
I am looking forward to getting to know all of your children better throughout the coming year. If you ever have any concerns or questions, please email me at [email protected] . I check email before and after school as well as during specials. My goal is for every child to have a successful year and your participation will help ensure that they are successful.
Have a wonderful weekend
