Hello Everyone!
I think this past week is a wonderful example of the old saying: If you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes and it will change! I'm just hoping the upcoming changes DON'T include rain. I think we have had enough for awhile!
Everyone seems to be getting sick or having the sniffles. We have gone through a great deal of tissues and hand sanitizer over the past week. Please continue to reinforce the idea of sneezing and coughing into the inside of your elbow or hands to prevent the spread of germs. Also encourage your child to blow their noses, not just wipe them.
Parkside Elementary School has begun their Fall canned foods drive. Everyone is encouraged to send in some extra cans of food which will be donated to one of the local food pantries. There is a competition to see which class can bring in the most cans....
Your child brought home their first quarter report card on Thursday. The envelope and the signature card need to be returned. Please keep the report card and review it with your child.
On Thursday your child also brought home a blue piece of paper regarding our upcoming PREP enrichment activities. Your child is being given the opportunity to participate in one of several different enrichment activities. Please review these activities with your child and have them select their top 3 choices for both second and third quarter. The paper with your child's choices needs to be returned on Monday, November 9th.
Please remember there is no school on Wednesday, November 11th for Veterans Day.
With the beginning of November came a new character trait for the Leader in Me program. For the month of November and December we will be focusing on 'Putting First Things First'. Ask your child what that means and what are some examples of putting First Things First. This past week we discussed the meaning of this saying and how it relates to school work and chores. This coming week we will discuss how Putting First Things First relates to our behavior.
In literacy we have begun our nonfiction research projects. This week students will begin completing their research to find out more about their topic. I have told them that they don't have to do any additional research at home, but if they would like to find out more, here are 2 'kid friendly' search engines.
